| Introduction
I have worked as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in
Harrogate since 2006. I have a busy NHS practice with the vast majority
of my surgery being Hip or Knee related. My specialty interest in Hip
and Knee Surgery has enabled me to gain experience by performing large
numbers of Joint Replacements and ‘keyhole’ or Arthroscopic
Surgeries each year.
I enjoy the practice of ‘Revision’ or ‘Re-do’
joint surgery. This involves replacing the old worn out hip with a new
one. Often severe bone loss, fractures, recurrent dislocation or infection
have to be overcome. I believe the difficult challenges of ‘Revision’
surgery has also given me the necessary skills to ensure good outcomes
in first time Hip/Knee replacements.
Private consultations at the BMI Harrogate or the Spire in Leeds enable
me to spend the time required with my patients. I set aside 30 minutes
for a new appointment so you have time to ask all your questions / concerns
in a relaxed environment. We can explore all the treatment options before
choosing the ideal management plan for you as an individual.

Masters Degree
My interest in Engineering led me to study a Masters
Degree in Mechanical Engineering at Leeds University. In 2006 I earned
a distinction for my research into bone cements used in Hip and Knee
replacements.
Fellowships
A fellowship is generally a competitive attachment
to work closely with a National or International expert. In 2004-5 I
trained in a Specialist 6 months Knee Fellowship working for Nick London
in Harrogate. I gained experience in Arthroscopic Knee Surgery and Minimally
Invasive Knee Replacements. In 2005-6 I won a 1-year fellowship working
in Australia for the Queensland University of Technology under Professor
Ross Crawford and Dr Hugh English. In this busy post, I gained valuable
knowledge and experience in Computer Assisted Hip and Knee surgery,
Revision Joint Surgery, Hip Resurfacing, Hip Arthroscopy and Knee Arthroscopy.
I now share the supervision of an international Hip Fellow.
Research
I enjoy research and have published in several
medical journals. My work has led to presentations locally, nationally
and internationally. My prizes include the GlaxoSmithKleine Orthopaedic
Essay Prize in 2005 and the John Fitton Prize for Orthopaedic Specialist
Registrars in 2006.
My recent publications
